PEZ Dispenser Display DIY

So here's a making of that PEZ display stand (Yup, made it myself! ) seen in my last post, but here's the same one again in case you don't feel like checking the previous post. Tadaa! The display is (lol!) designed to hold 17 PEZ dispensers in total, hence the gaps. As seen in this picture, it can hold a lot more just without the stability like the one standing in the gaps have.

A disclaimer: I am an amateur and I don't know what I am doing. I don't know what the tools are called and even don't know what my material is. Sorry for that and I have to also apologize for the poor quality of the photos, sorry!

I started with a prototype using such fancy materials as frozen pizza boxes and old VHS tapes, it was very flimsy as best, but it helped me with some measurements and get a better hang of what I was trying to make. Following that, I made a small test piece of the material I was going to use for the finished product.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think the material I'm using is called paperboard. Why am I using it? Because it was free! There was this big piece of it loitering around the house so I decided to make something out of it.  The paperboard I'm using is almost 1 cm thick, but I think a thinner material would also work, as long as it is sturdy enough to withhold the combined weight of the dispensers. The basic tools I used to cut out the display are a regular saw, figure saw (?), a hammer and those three things  seen in the picture.

Making a gap for the foot of the PEZ dispenser in this picture. Maybe "those three things" are some kind of woodcarving tools, I guess? Don't know their actual names, though. Unfortunately, I don't have three hands, so I left the woodcarving thing standing there on its own for the picture. Obviously I was keeping it steady with my other hand, when I whacked it for real.

Assembly! I used again the trusty old VHS tapes to support the thing while the glue was setting.  Yes, those erasers have a purpose for laying there. They are counter weighting the "steps" that were tipping over before the glue hardened. I used universal glue meant for wood, plastic and whatnot for assembling this thing, and it's doing the job well, nothing has come apart as of yet. I couldn't bother taking any photos while my hands were covered in glue, so these pictures of the assembly have been taken before I added the glue! Just to see how it looked. You get the idea, right? Do keep your candy dispensers far away from the glue as well. They have no purpose being there as long as the glue is still wet.

Don't know if these will be helpful to anyone, but here are my not so sophisticated blueprints for my display stand in PDF. Paper size is A3!

PEZ Collection

Blah! It's been too long of a break since I last wrote anything, feels like I can't even form proper sentences anymore! Not that I was ever good at that before, mind you. I guess this will be again one of those posts where I try to let the pictures do the most of the  talking.

So, anyway...... first lets talk about Pez candies real quick!
Normal flavours here in Finland have been for as long as I can remember; Orange, Lemon, Cherry, Strawberry, and..... woodland strawberry? (not 100% sure of that...) They all taste good, but by default I like the orange one the least. I can't really decide between the strawberries and cherries which one I like better, depends on the day I suppose!

Other Pez flavours I've tasted are Pez Liqourice and Pez Fizzy. The Liqourice isn't sweet at all, it's more salty like and I don't care for it. Really yucky stuff, never going to buy it again. Now, on the other hand, the fizzy ones, they are the best! Seriously.

strawberry, apple, lemon and the white is something super sour

There are randomly multiple flavours within one pack and they are slightly sour (I guess it's the "fizz" that does it). They are so good!! :3 The only problem I have with them, a very big problem, is  that they are not sold in Finland! WHY!?!!!? I found the Fizzy Pez in a shop in Estonia and they were like 80% cheaper than the regular flavoured ones in Finland. I am so regretting right now I didn't buy more of them while I had the chance. Next time I get to Estonia I'm going to buy a whole truckload of them, so that they'll never run out!

Onto the dispenser themselves. Maybe it's just my memory lying to me, but I have this impression that back in my childhood , you used to get 6 or 8 packs of candy when you bought a dispenser. Nowadays, you get 3 or sometimes just 1 random pack of candy. What's up with that?

Here we are then, the following is my current collection of PEZ dispensers. I've said it before, that I'm not a collector of the PEZ dispensers themselves. I have these few selected ones, because I collect the stuff related to their particular series overall.

MLP: Friendship is Magic. I found just 1 Twilight in a local shop, and I finally found Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie over in Estonia.

The Simpsons. I've had Homer since my childhood and I bought Bart and Marge last year via a Facebook group. Still missing Lisa and Maggie. I was so close getting Lisa, before the seller backed down and was never heard of again.

The Moomins. Bought from the Toy Swap, the most expensive ones yet. Hopefully I'll never have to pay as much for another set of dispensers.

The Skulls. I love skulls! <3 and that's the only reason I bought them. I think they are seasonal for Halloween from 2014.

Star Wars. Maul, Sidious & Grievous were bought at the Toy Swap.  Vader, Stormtrooper & R2 were bought new in a shop. C-3PO is from my brother's childhood. Yoda & Chewie, I found them at a flea market.

Pokémon. I've had them all since my childhood <3

That's it! For now....

Monster High Bootleg

EDIT 25.02.2016: I guess the correct term for this would be knockoff and not a bootleg. :P

Sounds legit.

If there ever was a time I've completely wasted my money, this is it. I have absolutely no better excuse than that I purchased it out of curiosity and obscurity's sake. That's it.

front, side, back, side

I found this "Monster Party" doll at a local store's toy section which was overrun by fake My Little Ponies among other things  Oh! and there was also Frozen's Anna and Elsa dolls simply re-branded as "Let it Go" dolls (genius!). I really wish I could have taken some pictures of all the phonies, but store policies.... :\

There was an alternative version of this same doll with a pink & black dress and a purse. You could tell from afar that the pink & black dress was very ill-fitted as it barely even covered the doll's left boob. I chose this dotted orange dress because it at least looked like it fitted the doll and I preferred this one's accessory more that the handbag.

call me crazy, but I love the pattern inside the box

After freeing the doll from the packaging, the first thing I noticed was that there was something wrong with her feet, the shoes just uncontrollably spun around her legs. Removing the shoes revealed the problem, there's just stupid pegs where the damn feet should be. Wait a minute..... My God! This is actually a bootleg Bratz doll disguised as a Monster High doll!? Dun Dun Duuun!!!

I am disgusted now. While inspecting the legs, I couldn't happen to notice that the doll was covered with something. I'm hoping its just harmless dust. I wiped the other leg clean and left the other as it was, and took this picture to show the subtle difference.

This doll was full of other surprises as well. Pulling the hair back revealed some piercing holes, too bad no earrings were included (not a pretty profile btw). You may also notice a few strands of hair growing out of her neck. Charming. The long black hair was pressed against the back of the doll by this rubber band, once I removed it, all the doll's secrets were revealed. A serious case of balding for one,  which is very common with low end dolls like this and the dress doesn't fit perfectly either. Well, at least it looks good from the front.

The face paint doesn't actually look too bad, but what can you expect when they just shamelessly copy pasted a pair of Monster High eyes onto their make-a-quick-buck doll. Speaking of copy paste....

Look at this! I find that vampire Ghoulia kind of cute, but that Frankie clone? Ugh....

This is my BATSTICK! .... Bat wand? What is this?

And then there's this! Count Fabulous what have they done to you? He is now a now a cut in half, stick up his half butt, hollow accessory! And they didn't even bother to color his dress!

Fake McFuggly compared to a genuine Bratzillaz and Monster High doll.

Trying to end this on a positive note, the dress fits Freaky Fusion Scarah Screams quite nicely I think. Can't go wrong with black and orange!

...back in the box she goes! Best 7,45 € ever spent

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to wash my hands.
